Tesoro Campaign Says First Selectman Candidate Mike Herbst is Responsible for Canceled Debate

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro’s campaign is holding First Selectman candidate Mike Herbst responsible for the cancellation of a candidates’ debate that had been tentatively set for next week.

The debate was sponsored by the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce and the Trumbull Rotary and was to be held on October 16th at Trumbull High School. But Herbst would not agree to several dates offered by the sponsors. As a result, the Trumbull Chamber and Trumbull Rotary cancelled the event, Chamber Executive Director Jeff Bishop told the Tesoro campaign on Monday.

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro said her campaign cooperated with the sponsors for over a month. “The Trumbull Chamber initially approached us, and we were more than willing,” Tesoro said.

Tesoro Campaign Co-Manager Gail Ritacco said, “We don’t understand why Mr. Herbst did not agree to the debate. “Regardless of the cancellation of this debate,” Ritacco said, “the Tesoro campaign will continue to engage with Trumbull voters in a positive, issue-oriented fashion
