First Selectman Vicki Tesoro Places Fiscal Responsibility at Heart of First Term in Office and Re-Election Campaign

Tesoro exemplifies sound fiscal responsibility practices in first term in office and pledges a continued commitment to ensure that every dollar spent on behalf of Trumbull taxpayers improves quality of life and protects property values

TRUMBULL, CT – First Selectman Vicki Tesoro continues to implement a comprehensive and focused plan to invest in priorities that positively impact our community and improve our quality of life. After public safety, low taxes are this administration’s number one priority.

“Trumbull must remain competitive and affordable to residents and businesses alike, while maintaining the high quality of life we enjoy. This means stable taxes, smart restrained spending, and a strong credit rating. We must also continue to look for smart ways to attract new businesses and new residents, growing our grand list while protecting the residential character of Trumbull,” said First Selectman Tesoro.

During her first 20 months in office, First Selectman Tesoro has placed fiscal responsibility at the core of her administration. “As promised, I have kept taxes stable and spending in check,” Tesoro said. “We’ve done that while maintaining our commitment to invest in education, public safety, senior services, and other critical town-wide needs.  This continues to be my administration’s top priority and that won’t change if I’m re-elected.”

In addition, First Selectman Tesoro has maintained a robust general fund and has not used Trumbull’s savings account to artificially lower taxes, as has been done in prior administrations. Over the last two years, other areas of focus for the Tesoro Administration include:

  • Using a portion of the surplus to make an additional $500,000 contribution to our underfunded pension funds, over above that recommended by the actuary;

  • Refinancing debt, saving the taxpayers $472,000 over five years;

  • Maintaining our AA+ bond rating–Trumbull was praised by the rating agencies for our conservative and sound fiscal management;

“We’ve focused a lot of our attention on reducing departmental spending. But that only goes so far. The other side of the coin to maintaining low taxes is to grow our grand list,” said Tesoro. “Together with our Economic Development Director, my administration has delivered safe and focused economic development, while preserving and enhancing the quality and character of our community.”

First Selectman Tesoro will continue to ensure that every dollar spent on behalf of Trumbull taxpayers improves residents’ quality of life and protects their property values.

“I will fight to keep taxes as low as possible, while maintaining my commitment to invest in education, public safety, senior services and other critical town-wide needs. Budgets will continue to be transparent, realistic and properly prioritized.”
